Reflection on Silent Retreat

Abbie Camp

When I first heard we would be having a silent retreat during the Fellows year, I was expecting it to be boring or potentially stressful due to personal expectations. I can tell you it was neither of those things, but an incredibly peaceful and exploratory time with the Lord. This retreat came at the perfect time during the program, when I felt I needed rest and to listen to God the most. With the end of the program in sight, intentional time with God in the quiet stillness of nature served as a rejuvenating experience for me. I found that in the daily silence I was able to ponder and reflect what God has been teaching me and how He might be answering some of my big questions. Later discussing some of these things with the fellows gave way to many encouraging conversations about how we can view God and our relationship with Him rightly. This retreat gave me a new perspective on what it looks like to just be with God. I’m very thankful to have had this time to stop and practice being in His presence in a world that is moving on busily whether you are with it or not. What a gift.
